Stryker Systems Maintainer

Under the supervision of the Automotive Maintenance Supervisor, performs full range of field level maintenance on the Stryker family of vehicles (M1126 Infantry Carrier Vehicle, M1127 Recon Vehicle, M1128 Mobile Gun System (MGS), M1129 Mortar Carrier, M1130 Commander’s Vehicle (CV), M1131 Fire Support Vehicle (FSV), M1132 Engineer Support Vehicle (ESV), M1133 Medical Evacuation Vehicle (MEV), M1134 Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), and M1135 NBC Recon Vehicle (NBCRV).
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Performs field and sustainment level maintenance on various vehicle systems to include the suspension systems, diagnoses and troubleshoots malfunctions, performs field level maintenance on the engines, transmissions and power train major assemblies and components, vehicular mounted environmental control systems, fuel system components, suspension systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system and the fire control system on the Stryker family of vehicles.
Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, computerized diagnostic devices.
Use maintain and handle shop power tools.
Follows repair procedures, using charts, and technical manuals.
Tests and adjusts repaired systems to meet military performance specifications.
Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Performs battlefield damage and assessment and repair.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Automotive data processing equipment to include computer, printer, and other general office equipment outfitted with MS Office software; secure handheld radio sets; non-tactical vehicles.
Work is generally conducted in a motor pool type of environment. However, duties may occasionally involve working outside with a potential exposure to extreme temperatures. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all installations policies and fire/safety regulations. Must be able to lift very heavy items with weight in excess of 50 pounds.
Work may require light lifting, stooping, climbing, standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents.
Education/Certifications:One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
High School graduate or equivalent with training in equipment maintenance and management procedures at the Filed/Sustainment Level of maintenance.
Apprenticeship in Light/Heavy Automobile Repair, Automotive Mechanic or similar preferred.
MOS 91S or equivalent military training preferred (DD 214 or Certificate of Training required to validate training).
A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Kuwait Heavy Driver’s License. NOTE: US driver’s license must be valid for at least 18-24 months after hiring date.
HAZMAT Handling/Transportation Training desired.
608/609 certification preferred.
Approximately two (2) years’ experience as an electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance mechanic.
Approximately three (3) years of hands on experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with one year at field/sustainment maintenance level of maintenance.
Experience maintaining Stryker family of tactical wheeled vehicles.
Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Familiar with the use of military electronic or paper version technical manuals.
Ability to read, analyzes, understand and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, reports technical publications and documents.
The ability to troubleshoot, determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Must have excellent communications skills, both written and oral, in English.
Ability to work in a diverse workforce.
Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation, and teamwork.
Must exercise discretion and good sound judgement.
Knowledgeable of the Army Maintenance Management Principles and Standards.
Knowledgeable of physical security of government issued equipment.
Possesses excellent interpersonal skills; must be customer-oriented and divers.
Ability to handle confidential company and employee information with complete discretion.
Ability to work effectively with employees and management of all levels to include multi-national staff, superiors, and ranking military officers and non-commissioned officers.
Must have good understating in the use of MS Office other related applications.
