The Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate to join the S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group, a dynamic and interdisciplinary research group, led by Professor Borja García de Soto. The core topics of the S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group are Sustainable and resilient construction, Modularization and lean construction, Artificial intelligence, Robotic systems and automation, Technology integration and information modeling.
The selected applicant will be conducting research focusing on the cybersecurity implications of Construction 4.0. The objectives include to investigate the cybersecurity risks of the connected smart construction sites and semi/fully autonomous mobile agents (e.g., sensors equipped on the construction equipment, a network of surveillance cameras monitoring the sites, a swarm of building service robots); to categorize and develop a taxonomy of the identified risks and/or threats during the different phases of the lifecycle of construction projects, and develop a framework to address the potential threats; and to validate the proposed framework with the help of simulation and/or a case study analysis (working with industry partners).
Applicants must have a PhD, with a focus in cybersecurity or related field. Strong knowledge of the cyber security sector, preferably in the context of critical infrastructures and the built environment, and capacity to produce bespoke cyber deterrence measures are required. Ideal candidates should have strong developer and technical skills, preferably working with BIMserver.org framework. Experience in the areas of construction management and building information modeling (BIM) will be an advantage. Excellent communication skills in English, ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and scientific creativity are essential.
