Senior Scientist- Protein Design

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will drive innovation in protein design to support early-stage large molecule discovery .
Use and develop computational strategies to tackle difficult structure-based protein design challenges relevant to therapeutic discovery, including for de novo design
Work on multiple large molecule modalities such as target proteins, antibodies, and protein therapeutics
Stay abreast in the latest developments of computational protein design methodologies and contribute to the continuous development of protein design approaches
Develop and optimize computational workflows for efficient data analysis and visualization
Collaborate with experimental teams and present findings to cross-functional teams
Work with other computational groups at Amgen to align on strategies and projects

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD and relevant protein design experience

Or

Master’s degree and 3 years of protein design experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of protein design experience

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, computational biology, structural biology, or a related field; Relevant postdoctoral experience is a plus
Proven track record of successfully applying physics-based and state-of-the-art machine learning protein design and protein structure modeling tools (e.g., Rosetta, AlphaFold, ESMFold, ProteinMPNN, RFDiffusion, or similar) to solve challenging protein design problems
Experience working in the wet lab or directly with wet lab scientists (display technologies and/or recombinant protein production is a plus)
Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages
Experience working interactive data science environments and code repositories
Experience working in cloud and high-performance compute environments
Great communication abilities and meticulous attention to detail, including for written and oral presentation and code documentation
Broad general interest in protein biochemistry
Ability to drive an end-to-end project including working with collaborators to deliver results
Desire to be part of a team that transforms objectives into tangible outcomes, propels numerous dynamic projects, and cultivates effective cross-functional partnerships

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
