Operation Theatre (OT) Nurse

  • Assist in preparing the operating room (OR) for surgical procedures by ensuring cleanliness, proper functioning of equipment, and availability of necessary supplies and instrumentation.
  • Conduct preoperative assessments of patients, including reviewing medical histories, verifying surgical consents, and assessing vital signs, to ensure readiness for surgery.
  • Provide direct patient care during surgical procedures by assisting the surgical team, monitoring patient vital signs, administering medications, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and supplies, maintaining a sterile field, and operating surgical equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare team members to ensure smooth coordination and execution of surgical procedures.
  • Accurately document intraoperative events, including surgical counts, specimen handling, and administration of medications, in compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies.
  • Provide postoperative care to patients in the recovery room (PACU) by monitoring vital signs, assessing pain levels, managing surgical incisions, and addressing immediate postoperative needs.
  • Educate patients and families about postoperative care instructions, including wound care, activity restrictions, medication management, and signs of complications, to promote optimal recovery outcomes.
  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to minimize the risk of surgical site infections and ensure a safe surgical environment for patients and healthcare providers.
  • Respond promptly to intraoperative emergencies or complications, such as hemorrhage, hypotension, or allergic reactions, by initiating appropriate interventions and collaborating with the surgical team to stabilize the patient.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement projects related to perioperative nursing practices, contributing to enhanced patient safety, outcomes, and satisfaction.
  • Stay abreast of advances in perioperative nursing practice, surgical techniques, and technology by participating in ongoing education and professional development activities.
  • Adhere to ethical principles and professional standards of nursing practice, including maintaining patient confidentiality, respecting patient autonomy, and upholding the principles of beneficence and nonmaleficence.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare disciplines, such as anesthesia, surgery, radiology, and laboratory services, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care throughout the perioperative continuum.
  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' rights, preferences, and needs within the perioperative setting, serving as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to promote patient-centered care and positive surgical experiences.


Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Must possess a valid DHA (Dubai Health Authority) Registered Nurse license.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in an operation theatre or surgical setting.
