Background
The Jordan Tourism Board Activity (JTBA) is a three-year, $16.2 million program funded by USAID, with the primary goal to strengthen Jordan’s tourism sector through support to the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB). JTBA will enhance JTB’s efforts to strategically position and promote Jordan as a distinctive destination. Further, the JTBA will increase domestic and international tourism to primary and secondary sites, boosting the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and enabling economic growth and job creation across the tourism value chain. The program will achieve its objectives in close coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA) and local and international partners. The project is implemented by SEGURA Consulting with support from international and local subcontractors.
Position Description
Accountant is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance of Operations (DFO) in all aspects of the project accounting and financial management. She/he processes accounting transactions according to the general principles of accounting and adheres to field accounting manual procedures as assigned by the DFO. Accountant must also follow USAID and SEGURA policies, procedures, and regulations.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Review project’s expenses packages, ensure that expenses are allowable, allocable and reasonable according to USAID and SEGURA policies and regulations.
- Review invoices of suppliers and subcontracts; maintain files for each subcontractor.
- Prepare payments’ general journals, with supporting documents, to the DFO for review.
- Process expense reports generated by project staff.
- Prepare online payments.
- Process cash advances to local project staff and follow-up on outstanding balances and update their tracker.
- Maintain and verify petty cash transactions. Reconcile balances at least once a month.
- Update trackers (STTA s, Vendors’ Bank details, Staff’s Bank details , etc.)
- Day to day work on updating ISTD report.
- Enter accounting transactions into the accounting software on daily basis.
- Upload monthly income tax deductions to ISTD website.
- Help the DFO in closing the month process.
- Prepare requests of auditors as guided by the DFO.
- Scan & File all month processed payments according to Finance filing system.
- Perform other tasks as requested by the DFO
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of USAID regulations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Quickbooks and other accounting software packages
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Proficient English preferred

Location
