Communications Manager

1.  Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the CEO, the Communications Manager  contributes to the Communications Department’s overall purpose, which is to craft proactive, innovative and compelling Arabic and English communications, content marketing and engagement in a mix of channels with our volunteers, donors and partners to share compelling stories to inform, motivate, inspire, and call to action, and to support positive behaviour change. Communications will follow best practices in social behaviour change communications (SBCC) in non-fiction and fiction formats, and will maximise leverage of local, national and international broadcast and digital media, social media, website, blog, email direct marketing, and other external platforms, linking with our partners’ communications wherever possible to exploit a multiplier effect.

The Communications Manager  serves as the communications project lead on specific assigned projects and supports the Communications Specialist and other colleagues on other projects, providing primary support on GFP's content productions storytelling, campaigns, and digital media development to contribute to stronger engagement with key stakeholders including current and potential donors, partners and volunteers. The role requires close collaboration and teamwork with other colleagues in the Communications Department, the Programmes Department and other Departments, injecting creativity, solution design, positive energy and a “one team” attitude.

2.  Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CEO, the Communications Manager  will manage workload, priorities and schedule to meet deadlines in the following areas:

·  Serving as the communications project lead on certain projects and project support on other projects, as assigned by the CEO

·  Contribution to conceptualization of communications content and selection of channels to best achieve the strategic objectives of each project

·  Preparing digital media and engagement plans, communications and visibility plans, and communications campaigns

·  Relationship building/liaising and engagement with donors, partners, and GFP volunteers to collect quotes/ testimonials, and leverage their communications strengths and channels.

·  Drafting, as well as editing and providing feedback to communications products to support high-quality Arabic and English,

·  Taking personal responsibility for quality of communications content before publication.

·  Liaising with and reporting to GFP colleagues and donors in oral and written Arabic and English

·  Coordinating with Head of Production on production of visual elements including video production, photo images, infographics and graphic design work

·  Cultivating strong relationships with media contacts in Jordan, the USA, and internationally

·  Supporting Communications and Programmes Department colleagues on Media For Peace programming, engaging both the “production side” of media (media and social media professionals and Fact Checking organisations; strengthening media ethics, conflict sensitivity, gender sensitivity and fact-checking) and the “consumption side” of media (engaging young people in communities to enhance their media information literacy and more critical consumption of media information)

·  Supporting colleagues in the Communications and Programmes Department with the Women Peace and Security Programming involves aiding in the development of Communication and Engagement plans for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) participating in the programme. Additionally, it entails crafting distinctive branding identities for each entity.

·  Providing coaching and mentoring to entities engaged in any programme is crucial for fostering their ability to formulate Communication and Engagement plans, aligning with a systematic strengthening approach.

·  Designing and facilitating Communication-focused training sessions.

·  Coordinating Communications Department inputs into major events

·  Coordinating Communications Department inputs into grant proposals

·  Supporting the monitoring, evaluation, and growth of digital media influence, interaction, and engagement, liaising with MEAL team on M&E of communications campaigns

·  Liaising externally with donors and partners, and internally with other Departments to seek feedback and ensure all Communications effort is supporting strategic objectives

·  Following GFP’s brand guidelines and style guides for consistency across all communications products

·  Following GFP’s procurement and financial management procedures for all Communications products and budget spending

·  Supporting Knowledge Management and knowledge sharing within the Communications Department and across the entire organisation

·  Contributing and brainstorming ideas in support of the Communications Department and organisational objectives

Completing other responsibilities as requested by the CEO.

5. Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required:

Essential:

·  University Bachelor’s Degree minimum

·  At least three to  Eight years’ professional experience in a similar role

·  A passion for NGO communications, GFP’s mission, and social behaviour-change communications

·  A passion for storytelling and engaging people in communities to share their stories

·  Exceptionally good professional standard of written Arabic, and the ability to communicate in English with GFP colleagues and partners and donors, and to translate from English to Arabic and from Arabic to English

·  Experience in creating high quality visual communications content

·  Experience in social media development and monitoring

·  Experience in website content

·  Experience with e-newsletters and mailchimp

·  Experience in media communications

·  Experience proof-reading and fact-checking

·  Experience in donor engagement and visibility

·  Excellent active listening, problem solving, client management and customer service skills

·  Excellent computer skills (documents/spreadsheets/databases/presentations/calendars/email)

·  Proven ability to work under pressure and multi-task, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines

·  Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural team

·  Cultural sensitivity and understanding of different interpretations of communications approaches in different global, regional, and local contexts

Preferred:

·  Master’s Degree in a relevant subject

·  International work experience outside Jordan
